As kids, we learn how to read in a specific order. We learn our alphabet before we say sounds, then its words, and then sentences. Think back to how many years it has taken to grow the skill of reading. If you’re like me you dreaded reading out loud to the class. My anxiety was high, my palms grew sweaty, and sometimes I would even skip ahead to see if I didn’t know words so I didn’t sound too stupid. But there was one trick I did learn over time. If I didn’t understand the pronunciation of a word, I would pause. This would signal to the teacher that I was stuck and needed guidance. The teacher would help me sound it out or would just give me the answer. By the age of 8, the sentences would be read more smoothly and soon enough I was a strong reader. In fact, I recall the first books that sparked my passion for reading in the 3rd grade. It was titled the Quilt Trilogy by Ann Rinaldi.

Let’s connect how the skill of reading is related to social media strategy. Like learning how to read, there are several blocks to complete for a successful profile foundation to be clear to existing audiences and potential new followers. To set up your foundation you will need to:

• Clarify your profile- Share the most important things such as a motto if you have one, share your location, and share your website.
• First impressions count- update your profile photo if your logo has changed. Have several logos available based on color and feel free to refresh when you feel like you need to.
• Show up consistently- this is the hardest and I am one to fall back on this too. Life can get in the way, but if there is a roadmap, it will be easier to follow.

The importance of consistency can show great results. As a new TikTok profile, I was able to grow 30 followers organically by showing up consistently for 7 days. Additionally, I was focusing more on connecting with my audience with relatable content such as trends and talking tip videos to show my expertise.

The skill of consistency can be achieved with a strategic plan.
